The State Committee of Statistics of Turkmenistan has signed an Agreement with the World Bank Group (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development) on the provision of a reimbursable advisory services on basis to improve the country's statistical system.
During working visits to our country in 2026, delegations led by the World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia held consultations on the development of the national statistical system. Following these meetings, the World Bank Group (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development) proposed that the State Committee of Statistics of Turkmenistan enter into an Agreement on the provision of reimbursable advisory services for cooperation in 2026–2027.
This Agreement provides for activities and work to provide technical assistance in the area of methodology for participation in the International Comparison Program, strengthening capacity in the area of the system of national accounts and calculation of gross domestic product in accordance with the international statistical standard SNA 2025 adopted in March 2025 in New York at the 56th session of the UN Statistical Commission, as well as to expand experience in the area of collecting data on household and labor force surveys based on a digital questionnaire using the “Survey Solutions” (CAPI) software platform.
As part of technical assistance to improve the methodology of the International Comparison Program, with the active assistance of international experts, specialized operational guidelines and sample lists of goods and services will be developed for the accurate collection of price data, and training will be provided to TurkmenStat specialists on the methodology for calculating purchasing power parities and compiling national accounts in accordance with the 2025 SNA.
Training sessions for statistical specialists and a pilot survey will also be conducted to transition from paper-based records to modern computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) for households and the labor force.
Successful implementation of the project will contribute to improving the methodology for calculating gross domestic product in line with international practice (2025 SNA), increasing the reliability of the national statistical system, and accurately presenting macroeconomic indicators to the global community.
